Iredell County Sheriff To Buy Ballistic Shields For Elementary Schools

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is buying ballistic shields for all the county’s elementary schools.
Officials say it is a pro-active measure designed as a way to make schools more of a hardened target.
The shields will be kept in an undisclosed location inside the schools are going inside elementary campuses because most don’t have a full-time school resource officer.

Sheriff Darren Campbell says, “there’s a lot of people, especially young people that can get behind one shield with a properly trained person and hopefully save lives.”
The shields will be paid for with $45,000.00 in federal money seized from drug dealers.
