CMS returns to regular schedule on Thursday

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will return to a regular school schedule on Thursday, Feb. 5, officials announced Wednesday.

District officials made the decision to return to normal operation after monitoring the weather conditions over the last two weeks.

While CMS will operate as normal, we encourage our students, staff, and families to drive with caution,” officials said. “Please be patient as you return to school and give yourself plenty of time to reach your bus stop or school. Bus transportation will proceed with caution, and delayed arrivals are possible. Thank you in advance for your flexibility and patience as we work together to support a safe and successful return to school.”

All before-school and after-school programs and extracurricular activities will operate as normal. Middle school athletic events will return to normal while high school sporting events will be rescheduled.

Additionally, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education voted to modify the 2025-26 academic calendar. In doing so, Feb. 11 and April 29, originally scheduled as early release days, into full instructional days.

The change comes amidst the recent wintry weather impacts that has resulted in three waived instructional days, three remote learning days, and three delayed starts since December.

Students will attend school for a full day on both Feb. 11 and April 29, following their schools’ regular bell schedules.

“Families are rightly focused on instructional time,” said Board of Education Chair Stephanie Sneed. “By supporting the Superintendent’s recommendation to convert the remaining early release days to full instructional days, we’re choosing to exceed state requirements because it’s what best serves students.”
