Driver Charged In Deadly Accident On Albemarle Road At I-485

MINT HILL, NC — CMPD has charged the driver they say is responsible for a deadly accident Tuesday afternoon.

Jackie Spaide, 44, is facing multiple charges related to a deadly accident that happened around 2pm on Albemarle Road at I-485. Police say Spaide was turning left onto the I-485 ramp when her 2015 Jeep Wrangler hit the left side of a 2006 Hyundai Elantra, sending it off the road and down an embankment.

The driver of that Hyundai, 73-year-old Thomas Emmett, was pronounced dead at the scene. Spaide was not injured in the accident.

Both drivers were seatbelted at the time of the crash.

Investigators say Spaide failed to yield the right of way when she hit Emmett’s car. She is now charged with Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle, Driving While License Revoked, and Failure to Yield Right of Way.

This investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
