Dockless Bikes Take Over Charlotte

They’re hard to miss, those thousands of colorful bikes across the city.
Four dockless bike companies have launched fleets in Charlotte since November and they’re gaining popularity.

There are currently 2,000 on the road and, so far, riders have taken more than 86,000 trips.
But because you park the bike where ever you are when you finish riding, some business owners are finding discarded bikes littering their parking lots and sidewalks.

Charlotte DOT has rules for dockless bikes; they can’t block the sidewalk, bus stops or loading zones.
The dockless bikes are part of pilot program that will end in the next year.
Afterwards, city leaders plan to adjust the rules that regulate the bikes.
