The Edge: Reports of Olympic medals breaking

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Imagine winning a medal in the Olympics, only to have it break within just a few moments. Some athletes competing in the 2026 Winter Games in Italy say they’ve encountered just that.

American skier Breezy Johnson and figure skater Alysa Liu have both reported problems. They say their medals became detached from the ribbons.

Johnson advised her fellow athletes to not jump while wearing their medals.
