14 students taken to hospital after school bus crashes in Gastonia
A school bus carrying 48 students on board crashed into a wooded area in Gastonia on Thursday, according to the Gastonia Police Department.
The bus was from Bessemer City Primary School and Bessemer City Elementary School. It went off the road and crashed into the woods on Jenkins Dairy Road near Jenkins Road.
Fourteen of the 48 students were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Gaston County Schools. One student may have a broken arm, police said. All the non-injured children are being reunited with their parents.
Officers are at the scene and are working to determine the cause of the crash and to clear the scene. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
