Louisiana man arrested in Alexander County after multi-county chase

A Louisiana man, wanted by the United States Secret Service, was arrested in Alexander County Saturday after leading deputies on a chase and hitting a patrol vehicle, according to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 1:30 p.m., Catawba County deputies were called to Riverbend Park to assist the Secret Service with locating 43-year-old Shaun Jones.

When deputies found Jones, they said he hit one of their patrol vehicles and fled the scene north on Highway 16 into Alexander County.

An Alexander County deputy located Jones’ vehicle and continued the pursuit into Taylorsville. Jones drove into the First Baptist Church parking lot and came to a stop. After a brief standoff, Jones exited the vehicle and was arrested without further incident, deputies said.

Jones, of Grand Isle, Louisiana, was charged with assault on a government official, resisting arrest, failure to stop for blue light and siren, and flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle.

After his arrest, deputies received information about an explosive device in Jones’ vehicle but nothing was found, the sheriff’s office said.
