Temperatures, rain chances on the rise
There's still high uncertainty as to the timing, coverage, and location of this weekend's rain, but most locations can expect at least a few showers between Thursday and Sunday.
Happy Hump Day! Our taste of spring continues this Wednesday afternoon as highs swell near 70° across the Piedmont & Foothills. The warmth comes despite a largely overcast day; stiff southwesterly winds gusting close to 30 mph will fuel the above-average temperatures today. Expect another gray, but warm, day on Thursday, with highs rising into the mid-to-lower 70s for most around the Metro. While the bulk of the rain chances hold off until the weekend, a few stray showers may roll through the WCCB Charlotte viewing area at times between Wednesday night and Friday morning, especially in the High Country.
The overcast skies stick around through the final day of the workweek, but models are becoming increasingly confident that we’ll register a new record high on Friday. Highs may approach 80° in some Piedmont & Foothills communities as a cold front to the west squeezes tropical air into the Carolinas. There’s still high uncertainty as to the timing, totals, and location of scattered showers and thunderstorms on Friday & Saturday as a storm system sweeps through the WCCB Charlotte viewing area, but most locations should at least see some measurable rainfall within this timeframe. The incoming system also may stall just to our east on Sunday, which could lead to a few lingering showers through the end of the weekend.
Regardless of what happens this weekend, much colder air slides back into the Carolinas by the start of next week. Highs may struggle to clear the 30s & 40s on Monday & Tuesday; all the more reason to enjoy the warmth while it lasts. Just 30 days until spring!
