Record warmth Friday, major weather whiplash ahead
Rain chances linger through at least Sunday morning, but most locations remain dry far more often than not over the next few days.
Happy Friday! Thursday afternoon’s high of 78° in Charlotte was good enough for a new daily record, and today may be even warmer. In fact, the Metro may top out in the 80s for what would be the first time since November 22nd, 2025 – 90 days ago. Today’s record warmth will come despite the passage of a cold front this afternoon, which could bring some scattered shower activity with it this morning. Once the front passes through, plentiful sunshine will allow for what could be the warmest air we’ve seen in three months. Enjoy the warmth while it lasts – as we’ll quickly learn this weekend, winter won’t go down without a fight.
Get ready for a major case of weather whiplash as we roll into February’s final week. The aforementioned cold front will stall just to our south, leaving us with highs in the 50s and 60s across the board on Saturday – still above average, but much cooler than what we’ll see this Friday afternoon. Another storm system will ride along the stalled boundary to our south, which could bring a few scattered showers to the WCCB Charlotte viewing area, especially along and south of the I-85 corridor through Sunday morning. A major cold snap lies behind this second system, as highs will struggle to clear the 30s and 40s as we wrap up the weekend on Sunday.
Monday morning may be a major shock to the system – lows will dip into the teens and 20s across the board. Highs will top out in the mid-to-lower 40s around the Metro to kick off the workweek before warmer conditions slowly, but steadily, build in. More rain chances lurk ahead by the end of next week, but most locations should remain dry between Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening.
