Storms Pack a Punch, Causing Flash Flooding in Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NC –Β Storms packed a punch as they pushed out of the Charlotte area Tuesday night.
It was a wet, muddy mess for drivers trying to make their way home on I-77 Tuesday night.
The northbound side ended up mostly under water in the toll lane construction zone. It backed up traffic for miles.
The sky opened up late in the afternoon, flooding many of the usual spots.
A driver decided to chance it and ended up getting stuck on North Tryon Street, near the Amtrak station.
Meanwhile in East Charlotte, firefighters directed traffic at Monroe Road near Briar Creek. Someone else got stuck in the water there.
Part of a tree also came crashing down in Dilworth on Euclid Avenue.
The heavy rain and thunderstorms also led to flight delays that left passengers stranded for hours at Charlotte-Douglas.
All day, flooding remained an issue in Caldwell County as well. Water from Wilson Creek covered Brown Mountain Beach Road.
