The Corpse Flower Is Blooming At UNCC And Visitors Are Flocking To Get A Whiff

CHARLOTTE, NC — There’s something stinky in the air tonight on the campus of UNC Charlotte, and it’s drawing tons of visitors.

The school’s botanical garden is home to three Titan Arum plants, also know as the Corpse Flower. One of them, Rotney the Magnifiscent, started blooming Thursday.

The plant only blooms every five to seven years, and smells like rotting flesh when it does. People have been getting a whiff all day.

Odie bloomed back in 2015, and Bella last bloomed in 2010. Rotney’s bloom is expected to close by Friday night.

You can check it out from 9am until 7:30 tomorrow night.
