Garry McFadden Wins Mecklenburg County Sheriff Race

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former CMPD homicide detective Garry McFadden upsets Sheriff Irwin Carmichael in the Mecklenburg County Sheriff race.

Carmichael stood behind a controversial immigration program called 287 (g).  The program allows officials to screen anyone who has been arrested in Mecklenburg County to see if they are in the country illegally.

McFadden said he would end the 287 (g) program if he was elected.  McFadden will be the Mecklenburg County Sheriff for at least four years.
