RALEIGH, N.C. — Some Senate Republicans appear to want another showdown with Governor Pat McCrory over a state board that hears final unemployment appeals and his appointments to the panel.
Β
The Senate Finance Committee recommended to the whole chamber Wednesday a measure that makes various changes to how unemployment benefits are managed to limit fraud and to set more requirements for recipients seeking work. Most are sought by McCrory’s Division of Employment Security.
Β
But another provision also staggers terms of current members on the Board of Review appointed by McCrory, forcing one panelist to leave in June. McCrory vetoed a bill last year that contained a similar measure. McCrory lobbyist Fred Steen said after the meeting the governor remains opposed to that provision.

The full Senate scheduled floor debate on the measure Tuesday.
