Should We Fine Parents for Overweight Kids?

Your kid’s weight could get you into trouble. Β Lawmakers are considering a plan that would fine parents of overweight children as much as $800. Β It’s being batted about in Puerto Rico right now. Β Once a kid has been identified, government workers would figure out a diet and exercise plan, but if the kids don’t shape up within 6 months, mom and dad have to pay.

Of course, parents are responsible in all kinds of ways for their children. Β If your kids destroy somebody’s property, guess who has to pay? Β You do. Β And if your kid has to be supervised by state agencies, guess who gets to pay for the costs of care, detention, or treatment? Β You do.
