7-year-old drowns at Bruce Meisner Park in Hickory

HICKORY, N.C. – A seven-year-old child died Wednesday after drowning at a park in Hickory, according to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 7 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, deputies responded to Bruce Meisner Park after a reported drowning.

Upon arrival, first responders recovered the body of a seven-year-old boy. Deputies said the child was submerged in the body of water connected to the park.

The child was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The family has been notified.

The incident is under investigation.
