CMPD Identifies Officers And Suspect Involved In East Charlotte Shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating after a man threatened suicide, causing officers to fire a gun in east Charlotte on Tuesday.

Authorities were called to 6200 Idlebrook Drive near Idlewild Road around 3:45 a.m. after they were notified by a woman that her husband, 41-year-old Timothy Hunter, was threatening suicide and had multiple firearms in his bedroom.

When CMPD officers arrived to the home, they spoke to the woman and followed her inside. As the police entered the home, Hunter left his bedroom carrying a long gun.

At that time, Officer’s Robert Land and Anderson Brown say they felt threatened. CMPD says Officer Land fired his handgun, but Hunter was not hit or injured.

He left the home unarmed and was taken into custody. Hunter has been charged with two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Law Enforcement Officer.

Officers also safely escorted other family members from the house.

CMPD says Officer Land has been with the department since September 2006, and Officer Brown was hired in October 2004.

As part of CMPD’s standard procedure, Land and Brown have both been placed on paid Administrative Leave pending an investigation into the officer involved shooting.
