
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A jury has found a Charlotte man accused of killing a woman while driving drunk in east Charlotte guilty of second degree murder. Β
Police say Eric Cox was drunk when he ran a red light and hit a car driven by 26-year-old H’Luon Siu. Β She was pronounced dead on the scene. Β Siu’s 4-year-old son was critically injured in the wreck. Β
The accident happened in 2011 at the intersection of The Plaza and East Sugar Creek Road. Β Cox was not injured in the crash. Β Cox was currently on a driving restriction due to a prior driving while impaired conviction. Β
The jury found Cox guilty of the following charges:Β 2nd degree murder, driving while impaired, failure to comply with a license restriction and felony serious injury by vehicle. Β A judge sentenced Cox to at least 17 years in prison.Β
