Gas Prices And Airport Crowds On The Rise As Memorial Day Weekend Approaches

CHARLOTTE, NC — Gas prices are spiking in the Carolinas, and airport lines are growing as millions gear up for Memorial Day travel.

AAA predicts 1.8 million Carolinians will hit the road for the long holiday weekend.

Regular unleaded gas is averaging $2.75 a gallon in Charlotte. That’s up nine cents from last week.

The statewide average is up six cents at $2.76.

Drivers in South Carolina are also paying about six cents more per gallon, with an average of about $2.63.

Large crowds are also expected to pack Charlotte Douglas Airport this week. The busiest days are expected to be Thursday and Friday with more than 31,000 passengers passing through the airport each day.

If you’re flying, officials say you should arrive two hours before your flight, and prepare for possible delays at TSA checkpoints.
