Woman, Two Teens Arrested After Gun Goes Off In Woods Near Burke County School
CONNELLY SPRINGS, N.C. — Deputies say they arrested a woman and two teens after a gun was shot in the woods near a Burke County school.
Deputies say they were called to Icard Elementary School on May 23rd after receiving a call that a woman and two teens were on the school property pointing what appeared to be a rifle.
The caller told officials the suspects went into the woods near the school. Deputies say they arrived within minutes and used a 4-wheel drive vehicle to search for the suspects in the woods.
The uniformed deputies say they heard a gunshot fired within yards of them. Within seconds, the deputies were able to get the three suspects in custody. They also recovered a 410-gauge shotgun.
Douglas Shuford, 18, has been charged with possession of a firearm on educational property, domestic violence protective order violation and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Justin Hatley, 18, and Tabitha Evans, 33, have both been charged with aid and abet possession of firearm on educational property.
