Officials Urge Safety On Both Land And Water This Memorial Day Weekend
CORNELIUS, NC — As the weather gets hotter, more people are spending time on the water. Lake Patrol officials want to make sure you stay safe on boats this holiday weekend.
Wildlife officials say there should be a designated driver if people are drinking, whether you’re on land or on a boat.
“Over-intoxication is a huge issue. Especially when you add the heat, the waves, the water,” says Sgt. Matthew Figaro with Cornelius Lake Patrol. “Make sure your motors are turned off, people are swimming away from the motors, never crank the boat while a person is in the water near you.”
Starting this weekend, officers will be doing sobriety checkpoints for car and boat drivers.
