Crews battling 50-acre wildfire in Avery County

AVERY COUNTY, N.C. – Multiple agencies are in Avery County battling a 50-acre wildfire.

Avery County Emergency Management said crews are near Beams Hill battling the wildfire that has been burning for several hours. As of 5:17 p.m. Wednesday, the 50-acre fire is 0% contained, according to the North Carolina Forest Service.

The cause of the fire is unclear at this time.

U.S. Highway 19E is closed from Old Joe Howell Store to the Avery/Mitchell County line at Mayland. A temporary no fly zone is in effect over the area.
