Undocumented Immigrant Pleads Guilty To 2017 Arson
CHARLOTTE, NC — An undocumented immigrant who set fire to an east Charlotte apartment complex will spend at least four years in prison before he is deported to Mexico.
Jesus Lopez pleaded guilty today to 32 counts of First-Degree Arson. A judge sentenced him to prison time and ordered Lopez to pay $75,000 in restitution to the victims.
According to an arrest warrant, Lopez set fire to the Woodscape Apartments last July to kill his ex-girlfriend.
The fire hurt seven people, and left about 40 families homeless.
