What’s Next For ‘Roseanne?’

ABC pulled a rerun of of the “Roseanne” reboot that was set to air Tuesday night and replaced it with an episode of another sitcom. The network also scrubbed the series from its website.

Roseanne Barr isn’t commenting on the network’s decision to scrap the show over a tweet that targeted former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett. Barr wrote, “Muslim brotherhood and planet of the apes had a baby=vj.” She deleted the tweet and then apologized, calling it a bad joke.

Jarrett, who is African-American, addressed Barr’s tweets Tuesday during a town hall on “Everyday Racism” for MSNBC.

“First of all, I think we have to turn it into a teaching moment,” Jarrett said. “I’m fine. I’m worried about all the people out there who don’t have a circle of friends and followers who come right to their defense.”

“Roseanne” was one of the highest rated shows on television and ABC’s biggest hit. ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey issued this statement: “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”

The C.E.O. of ABC’s parent company Disney called canceling the show “the right thing”.
