76ers GM Accused Of Using Burner Twitter Accounts
The Philadelphia 76ers organization is now investigating its own general manager. A new report alleges President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo is connected to five fake Twitter accounts. He reportedly used them to criticize NBA players, including some on his own team, and publicly debate the decisions of his coaching staff.
The Ringer.com broke the story after investigating an anonymous tip. Colangelo admitted to using one of the accounts, releasing this statement:
“Like many of my colleagues in sports, I have used social media as a means to keep up with the news. While I have never posted anything whatsoever on social media, I have used the @Phila1234567 Twitter account referenced in this story to monitor our industry and other current events. This storyline is disturbing to me on many levels, as I am not familiar with any of the other accounts that have been brought to my attention, nor do I know who is behind them or what their motives may be in using them.”
The story took a turn Wednesday; Sixers fans on the internet may have found out why Colangelo never owned up to the other accounts. It appears the phone number linked to three accounts has the same last two digits as his wife’s cell phone number.
