Police say a man is facing charges in a fatal wreck in east Charlotte. Benjavan Yaemmongkol has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and driving left of center.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say a woman was killed in a crash in east Charlotte after the vehicle she was riding in crossed the double yellow line and hit another vehicle head-on.
The crash happened on May 9th just before 1:30pm on Pence Road. Investigators say Benjavan Yaemmongkol was driving a blue Toyota Sienna minivan when police say he crossed the double yellow center line into oncoming traffic, striking a silver Chevrolet Impala head-on.
A passenger in Yaemmongkol’s vehicle, 72-year-old Dorothy Witherspoon, died on May 31st from the injuries she sustained in the crash.
Yaemmongkol only received minor injuries and the driver of the Impala was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Police say speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash and the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
