Construction worker finds possible human remains in Rock Hill crawlspace

ROCK HILL, SC — A disturbing discovery when a possible human skull found under a rock hill business.

Phillip Shipp’s company was hired to cleanout the crawl space here on Oakland Ave Tuesday morning.

Shipp says behind several old doors stacked against the wall was where he found a human skull. He admits at first he thought it was a Halloween prop but, quickly he figured out it was the real thing.

“As I picked it up with my gloves, like an inch off the ground, I knew immediately this is not okay.
This is not a good situation. So my first thought was, okay, I’m a part of a crime scene now,” Shipp explained.

Rock Hill police began investigating soon after and tells WCCB it is still awaiting forensic results to learn if it is human remains which will then determine the next steps of the investigation.

Neighbors were shocked to learn of the discovery and see the apparent human skull laying on a pallet in the front yard.

“I was walking the dog and we walked by. We saw it, and so it was just kind of out there for people to walk by and see,” said Caroline DeJesus.

Shipp tells WCCB that if it is a human skull he found, he hopes that person’s family gets some sort of closure.

“That person lived, that person loved,Β  that person had relationships with people. So, it’s only right that they are, no matter what, they’re put down properly,” said Shipp.

According to York County records, the house being used as a business, was built in 1920. It was purchased in February by Duncan Holding LLC. It was sold to them by attorney, Bruce Poore, who owned the house since 1999.

We reached out to Duncan Holding for comment but have not heard back.

Poore declined to comment on the discovery.
