ICE says it’s arrested a terrorist organization leader in Mooresville
MOORESVILLE, N.C. – The Department of Homeland Security says ICE has arrested a terrorist organization leader in our area. Felipe Aquilla also known as “Don” was taken into custody after trying to flee from a traffic stop in Mooresville on June 5th.
Investigators say Aquilla is in the country illegally from Brazil and has an international warrant.
They say he previously was commander of Primerio Comando de Capital and Comando Vermelho, which are designated foreign terrorist organizations.
DHS claims he was holding his wife against her will as he was preparing to flee to Mexico. Investigators searched his car, and say they found cell phones, laptops, money and a gun.
He’s currently being held on state felony charges of fleeing to elude arrest.
