NC lawmakers advance bill to loosen liquor laws
RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina lawmakers are looking to loosen some of the state’s long-standing alcohol restrictions. House Bill 198 would expand where and how alcohol can be sold and consumed across the state.
If approved, the bill would allow liquor tastings in ABC stores, and let customers order two mixed drinks at a time at bars and restaurants.
Supporters say House Bill 198 modernizes outdated alcohol laws and gives consumers more flexibility. Critics raise concerns about public safety and increased access to alcohol.
The bill goes next to a Senate Judiciary Committee.
