Gov. Stein presents Order of the Long Leaf Pine awards to recipients

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Governor Josh Stein honored some of Charlotte’s most influential leaders with one of North Carolina’s highest civilian awards. On Wednesday, Stein presented the Order of the Long Leaf Pine to a distinguished group of Mecklenburg County leaders, recognizing them for their lasting impact on the community.

Among those honored were Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, former Charlotte Mayor Richard Vinroot, businessman and Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper,and Panthers legend Steve Smith Sr.

The prestigious honor recognizes North Carolinians who have demonstrated extraordinary service and leadership throughout their careers. Stein says, “Each one of today’s honorees has made his or her own unique imprint onto this state that we all love. Their legacies will live on in our work to build a safer, stronger North Carolina, and we will all take inspiration from them.”

Stein says the recipients have helped shape Charlotte and strengthen communities across the state.
