Sales tax increases goes into effect July 1 in Mecklenburg County

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. – The sales tax is going up next week in Mecklenburg County. Starting July 1st, you’ll pay an additional one percent.

Voters approved the change last November. The money will go toward roads and transit.

After the increase goes into effect, the combined state and local sales tax in Mecklenburg County will be 8.25% percent. The national average is 7.5%.
