Arrest Warrants Issued for Teen Who Shot Student At Salisbury High School

SALISBURY, N.C. —  UPDATE: Police have issued arrest warrants for 17-year-old Dajuan Russell. The warrants are for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm on school property and discharging a weapon on school property. Russell is accused of shooting 16-year-old Shaleek Williams.  

Police say the shooting happened near the gymnasium behind Salisbury High School after classes were dismissed for the day. 

Investigators believe the incident is related to an altercation that happened over the weekend. 

During Monday’s confrontation, police say Williams was punched in the face then shot in the abdomen area. He was taken to a local hospital.

Both Salisbury High School and Livingston College were placed on lockdown during the initial investigation.
