Mother, Father Arrested For Leaving Child In Hot Car Identified

MOORESVILLE, NC — Police say a mother and father were taken into custody Thursday afternoon for allegedly leaving their child in a hot car.

Police say they responded to the Verizon store on River Highway around 12:30pm after someone reported a child left inside a vehicle with the engine off and the windows up.

The two-year-old girl was located by responding officers. Officials say she was left in the car while the couple went inside, and was sweating and crying when they arrived.

The toddler is reportedly doing fine, and was treated at the scene.

The parents, Sarah Hunt, 30, and Brandon Burris, 27, have both been charged with Misdemeanor Child Abuse.

The child has been placed in the custody of a family relative.
