NC Mom Claims To Have $188M Powerball Ticket

SHALLOTTE, N.C. — A North Carolina women has come forward claiming she is one of the three winners in the $564 million Powerball jackpot, according to WECT in Wilmington.

Marie Holmes told WECT on Thursday that before she is to turn in the ticket to state lottery officials she would like to speak with lawyers and a financial adviser.

“I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I saw the ticket and checked it,” said Holmes as she showed the winning ticket with the matching numbers to WECT.

Holmes is a mother of four children, one of whom has cerebral palsy, said she was forced to quit her jobs at Wal-Mart and McDonald’s to care for her children.

Before taxes, the winning ticket would be worth $188 million paid over 30 years or $127 million if the winner chose to take it in a single payment.
