UPDATE: CMC officials confirm that Destiny Stafford passed away early this morning from her injuries.
BELMONT, NC – A Gaston County teen remains in the hospital after being critically injured in a horseback riding accident. Hundreds of friends and classmates gathered for a vigil Sunday night at Stuart Cramer High School to pray for Destiny Stafford’s recovery.
Classmates tells us Stafford is a rising sophomore at the school and is the JV Cheerleading Captain.
“We’re trying to.. we’re all just trying to stay strong for her,” says her co-captain and classmate Desera Rhames.
Rhames says many teammates have visited her at the hospital and are hoping for the best. “We’re just praying that she pulls out of this. We’re just praying for a miracle,” she says.
“We so love her. She has such sweet spirit. Such an energetic, jovial, always with a smile, young lady,” explains Stuart Cramer principal Audrey Devine.
Devine says she’s encouraged by the community support. “It just warms my heart to see everyone come out in support of Destiny and her family, and we just want her to have a speedy recovery and join us in August when we return to school,” she says.
