CHARLOTTE, NC — A Charlotte mother gets emotional after cutting the ribbon for a new crosswalk and sidewalk where her daughter died.
18-year-old Garinger High School student Brittany Palmer was hit by a car crossing near the intersection of Sugar Creek Road and Eastway Drive in March 2012. Her mother, Katrina White, pushed for the safety changes.
“I hope that not another child would get hurt. That not another car would have to screech to a halt. That the teenagers would use the crosswalk,” said White.
The project cost more than $1 million. The city and state shared the cost.
