Veterinarian warns pet owners about New World screwworm

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Veterinarians are uging pet owners to be aware of the New World screwworm after the parasite has recently re-entered the United States for the first time in more than 50 years.

During an interview with Dr. Casey Locklear of Elanco Animal Health, the discussion focused on how the flesh-eating parasite spreads and what it could mean for dogs, cats, livestock and other warm-blooded animals.
