Charlotte hosts the MLS All Star Game

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Soccer fans are in the Queen City for the MLS All Star Game.

I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time I haven’t been to all all star game with all the big stars in MLS which I find really exciting,” Leo Hall from Charlotte said.

The game brings together the cream of the crop from the MLS. They played against the best players from Liga MX, a soccer league based in Mexico. Many fans wore their Charlotte FC gear.

“You have teams that have played all differently, each player plays different, you put them all together and see how they work and play against a whole different team,” Michael Procopio from Asheville said.

The all star game comes on the heels of the FIFA World Cup. It’s also happening while Bank of America stadium is getting a $1.3 billion dollar face lift clearing the way for bigger sports events.

“After the World Cup when everyone who is not normally a soccer fan are starting to get into it so, having this right after in Charlotte is huge for soccer in general but for the city especially,” Billy hall from Charlotte said.

Fans traveled from near and far to see the game.

“It’s easy to make a little two hour drive here and it’s always a good environment always good vibes,” Javin Hughes from Asheville said.

Fans say events like this help put Charlotte in the global spotlight.

“We have so much going on here it’s beautiful there’s space everyone is kind and nice and it’s a great place to host people,” Jessica Hall from Charlotte said.
