NEWTON, NC — Police are investigating after two skimming devices were found inside gas pumps Tuesday afternoon.
The devices were found inside two pumps at the Exxon station located at 2443 W. NC 10 Highway around 5:26pm. Police say a customer noticed the control panel door was slightly ajar on one of the pumps and reported it to management.
Officials say the suspects had pried open the door and attached the skimmer to the inside. One additional device was also located after officials checked all 10 pumps on site. Both affected pumps were at the end of the pump lines.
Investigators say the skimmers may have been on the pumps for two to three weeks.
Customers who purchased fuel from this location should check their financial records immediately for signs of fraud. Police are also warning other businesses throughout the area to check their equipment for possible skimming devices.
