BURKE COUNTY, NC — An investigation is underway to determine what caused a deadly house fire Wednesday afternoon.
The fire happened around 5pm at a home on Rogers Road in the George Hildebrand community. Officials say the large, two story residence was fully engulfed and took roughly eight departments to extinguish the flames.
Burke County Fire Marshall, Mike Willis says once the fire was out crews located a body inside. At this time, Willis says it has not been determined whether the victim is male or female.
The SBI has been called in to assist with the investigation. Check back for updates.
