CATS to introduce “Stop Request” service on Gold Line

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (News Release) – The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will introduce stop request service on the Gold Line beginning Monday, Aug. 31, improving travel times and service reliability by reducing unnecessary stops.

Similar to a bus, Gold Line customers riding the streetcar will press the onboard “Stop Request” button before their desired station to signal the operator to stop. Customers waiting on the station platforms will continue to be picked up as usual.

Riders waiting on station platforms do not need to do anything differently. The streetcar will continue to stop for customers waiting to board.

In most cases, Gold Line streetcars will stop at stations only when:

  • A customer has requested a stop using the onboard “Stop Request” button, or
  • A customer is waiting on the station platform to board.

Customers should press the “Stop Request” button after departing the station prior to their stop or when their upcoming station is announced.

The change is designed to improve the speed and reliability of Gold Line service by eliminating unnecessary station stops while continuing to provide convenient access to all stations.

To help prepare customers for the transition, CATS will install onboard signage and provide audio announcements. CATS will also share instructional information through its website, social media channels and the CATS-Pass app, while communicating with business partners along the Gold Line corridor.
