MATTHEWS, NC — Police are looking for a man they say assaulted an employee when she approached him about stealing merchandise.
The incident happened around 8pm Thursday at the Rue 21 on E. Independence Boulevard. An employee told police she approached the suspect as he tried to leave the store with several unpaid items, and was then assaulted.
The suspect reportedly got into a 1996-1998 red Toyota Celica that was waiting outside. Officials say the vehicle is described as being very dirty and rusty.
The suspect is described as a black male, balding, and medium build. The vehicle’s driver was female, but police were unable to provide any additional descriptions.
