Coroner confirms human remains found in trash can are Chesterfield Co. missing woman

CHESTERFIELD CO., S.C. – New details in the case of a missing woman from Chesterfield County. 43-year-old LaShaunda Spurlock disappeared in 2024. On Tuesday, the Marlboro County, South Carolina, Coroner’s Office says human remains found in a Bennettsville trash can outside an apartment building are Spurlock’s.

The skeletal remains were found in April.

Bennettsville Police have arrested Luke Douglas, Junior. Investigators say Douglas admitted to keeping Spurlock’s decomposing body in an apartment storage area before dumping her in the trash.

Douglas faces charges of desecration of human remains.
