CMPD charges driver with DWI after crash kills woman

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police have arrested a driver for his involvement in a deadly north Charlotte crash. 36-year-old Jeffrey Almond is charged with DWI and felony serious injury.

The crash happened at the intersection of Statesville Road and W.T. Harris Boulevard just before 9:30 PM on August 17th. Investigators say Almond crashed a white pick-up truck into a silver Nissan Rouge while impaired.

A passenger inside the Nissan, 35-year-old Briana Watkins, died four days later. Another person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
