Four people injured in vicious dog attack

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four people are injured after a frightening dog attack in Northwest Charlotte. Police are still looking for the owners of the seven dogs involved.

A homeowner who didn’t want to be identified says an eviction order turned into a dog attack in the Claiborne Woods neighborhood Wednesday morning.

“You couldn’t even see a human body under there. All you saw was dogs and she was just screaming for help,” the homeowner said.

Police say seven pitbull dogs attacked a woman who was in her front yard near Woodcock Lane.

“They started off like two or three dogs,” the homeowner said. “Then before you know it, four more dogs ran out of nowhere. They pulled her to the ground.”

Animal control says three people were injured while trying to help the woman escape. Witnesses say Mecklenburg County Sheriff later identified as T. Bolton used a taser to stop the pack of dogs, but they were relentless.

“It came to the point where she actually had to shoot, one or two of the dogs. I saw one of them laying on the grass. She literally had no choice, in my opinion,” the homeowner said.

Authorities are still searching for the owner of the dogs. The homeowner WCCB spoke to says deputies showed up to help her evict tenants Wednesday morning before the attack. There was an ongoing landlord tenant dispute.

“He was not supposed to even have dogs in the house other than the ESA [Emotional Service Animal] dogs that he gave us the paperwork for,” the homeowner said. “Even then, we tried to evict him based on the damages they’d done to the house.”

The dog that was killed will be submitted for rabies testing. None of the dogs had microchips. If you know who owned the dogs call Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.
