Police still searching for owner of dogs responsible for vicious attack

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Ring camera video shows dogs fall out of the back of an open U-Haul truck on Claiborne Woods Drive Wednesday morning before the dogs attacked a woman in her front yard.

Neighbor Joe Correa says he grabbed a shovel to help fight off the dogs.

“It was murderous. She was screaming like she was being attacked by seven dogs,” Correa said. “I didn’t want to like, hurt the dogs at the same time. They’re hurting my friend, you know, like it’s, it’s a weird empathy place.”

In the video you can hear screams and chaos unfolding and seconds later you hear two shots. Mecklenburg County Sheriff Deputy T. Bolden was on the street for an eviction. She shot one of the dogs and Correa says it paused the attack.

“They really weren’t phased. It just gave us enough time for her to get up and get inside,” Correa said.

Three other neighbors were injured trying to help stop the dog attack. They hope this ring video helps identify the person responsible for endangering the community and the animals.

“The eviction was connected to the dog attack, that those dogs came from that eviction house and there should be some accountability,” Correa said.

Neighbors say the victim is still recovering at the hospital. Police have not filed any charges and are still searching for the owner. If you know who owns the dogs, call Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600. The dogs are now with Animal Care and Control.
