CMPD investigating officer involved shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred on Autumn Frost Trail. The incident occurred around noon on Tuesday in the University city area.

Chief Estella Patterson issued preleminary information regarding the shooting. CMPD received a call about a domestic violence order violation around the 4200 block of Autumn Frost Trail. The caller indicated that the suspect was on his way to her residence with a firearm. The caller fled to a nearby gas station.

Officers arrived on scene and were met by the suspect. Gunfire was exchanged after multiple officers perceived an imminent threat. Officers provided aid to the suspect while MEDIC was in route to the scene. The suspect is currently being treated at a medical facility with life-threatening injuries.

Multiple officers received medical care as a precaution. A firearm was found at the scene and multiple houses and cars were struck during the incident.
