Neighbors say boy took clip out of gun before firing it and shooting himself in NW Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A little boy is fighting for his life following a shooting in northwest Charlotte. The shooting happened around rush hour Thursday afternoon on Reliance Street. MEDIC confirms he has life-threatening injuries.

According to neighbors, he was playing with a gun and shot himself in the head. One woman, who didn’t want to be identified, tells us, “He’s a good boy. He’s not a troublemaker. He’s just like all kids. They see something. They get curious. He picked up the gun, he took out the clip. He thought that’s what all you needed to do. He didn’t realize (there) was one in the (chamber). So when he raised up and he shot, he shot himself.”

The neighbor says this is a stark reminder that parents need to keep guns out of kids hands.
