The Firefighter Steven Coakley Foundation prepares for annual “Flags and Lights of Remembrance” ceremony in Uptown on 9/11

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A powerful tribute is taking shape in Uptown Charlotte to commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11. The Firefighter Steven Coakley Foundation is preparing for its annual “Flags and Lights of Remembrance” ceremony at Romare Bearden Park.

On Thursday, volunteers placed nearly 3,000 American flags in the shape of the Twin Towers. The official remembrance ceremony will take place Friday morning, September 11th at 8:30 AM. A replica of the World Trade Center and a recovered steel beam will be on display as two massive pillars of light illuminate the Uptown skyline

John Howell with the F.F. Steven Coakley Foundation says, “We are excited about the opportunity for the city of Charlotte, and to further expand the mission of the operation. Which is really about remembrance, and respect for the 2,977 victims of the terrorists attacks on 9/11.”
