Two more top-tier CMS officials announce their plans to step down

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two more high-ranking Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials have announced their plans to step down. CMS confirmed for WCCB that Chief Operations Officer Tim Ivey and Associate Superintendent of Human Resources Dr. Tangela Williams will retire in January 1, 2027.

This development brings the total number of top-tier CMS leadership departures to five within a single month. We reported last week that Deputy Superintendent Dr. Melissa Balknight and Chief Financial Officer Kelly Kluttz are also retiring on January 1 to spend more time with family. Chief Human Resources Officer Angela Woods’ resignation went into effect on September 14th.

This wave of departures follows a highly tumultuous summer involving an investigation into Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill. The school board reinstated Hill in August after she was cleared of wrongdoing.
