LANCASTER, S.C. – The collision between a deputy vehicle and a pedestrian is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
An on-duty deputy was traveling in his marked patrol vehicle on U.S. 521/Kershaw Camden Highway, approaching the town of Kershaw near B&J Mini Mart. The Ford Explorer patrol vehicle struck a 32-year-old male who was in the roadway.
The deputy was not responding to a service call at the time of the collision and immediately stopped, called for assistance and rendered aid. The pedestrian was transported to a local medical facility and was described as alert and responsive, according to the news release. His current condition is unknown.
No injuries to the deputy were reported and there was minor damage to the patrol car.
Lancaster County Sheriff Bailey Faile issued a statement following the incident.
“Our best wishes are extended to young man involved in this collision, and we hope he fully recovers soon,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “We will provide the Highway Patrol all the information we have on this collision and will cooperate fully with their investigation.”
